Next Stop

Billy has been interviewing for a job the past two days. This is job interview #2. It is interesting to be in this situation. I remember watching friends during undergrad, dental school, residency, and fellowship look ahead and find their jobs in different places around the country. Seeing them determine where they wanted to live and possibly raise their families. Some have stayed right where they went. Some have moved, more than once. For some it was an easy choice. For others it seemed so hard.

Billy's had many interviews in the past, but we have never felt completely in control of the outcome. It was always dependent on who would accept him. For the first time, things seem different.

We talked on the phone last night (He's in Lexington at the moment) as he looked over the current jobs being advertised. What about New York? Atlanta? Houston? Milwaukee? He read the job descriptions. I looked up city info. Who knows if this is the next stop or the last stop for us?! Can we see ourselves living there? Raising our family there? Would Billy be happy working there? It would be a shame to finally be done and to not be happy with his job.

It's a funny thing to look at cities around the country and decide what you think about them. Our knowledge is based on people we've met, or news stories we've heard. Or maybe even a tv show... not always the most reliable, rounded out information ever.

So that's what we're doing at the moment. Trying to figure out our future. I'll tell you what though, we are learning a ton about geography in the Midwest and South, and that's rather fun. Things aren't very far apart over here. :)
