Our Hero

We lost the pine tree in our front yard last September thanks to Hurricane Ike. It wasn't a sad thing, because that tree wasn't very pretty and just a mess, with needles getting all over the place. (I'm from WA and I LOVE pine trees, but not the kind we had. Ugh.) Anyway, Billy tried to avoid replacing it, and we loved having our little lawn look a little bigger with one less tree and just some nice green grass, but we finally got the threatening letter from the Home Owners' Association that we had to replace it, so Billy spent most of Friday digging a hole, buying a tree (fortunately they were on sale) and stuff to put in the clay we have in our yard, and planting the tree.

Tuesday evening after dinner the storm clouds rolled in and the wind picked up. Billy and I and the kids went to check on our little Charlie Brown tree through the front window and we saw it swaying like crazy in the gusts. Uh-Oh.

And that's when our hero sprang into action. He quickly found some rope, a hammer, and a small stake (left over from fixing the fence damage from the hurricane) and ran out into the crazy wind and rain. (And it was crazy!) We watched him tie the tree down so it wouldn't completely fall over or break. (I had to take the pictures through the window because of the way the wind was blowing, so they're hard to see.)

Billy got soaked, but the tree is still standing!! Yeah for Daddy!!!
