We went to Wilkerson Tree Farm, about 40 minutes away. We drove along the highway, and then into a windy "holler" that eventually led to this tree farm.
The kids loved wandering around and looking at the trees, playing with sticks, and picking up rocks.
In the end, we got a beautiful 8-9 foot tree for a whopping $23. It felt like highway robbery after the prices we'd paid in Houston for 6 years.
It was a fun time.
Emily participated in the elementary school spelling bee. She was 1 of twenty 4th and 5th graders to participate. It was nerve-wracking but she did well, and was one of the last 4th graders to make a mistake.
(We've been so pleased with how well the kids adjusted to their new school. They jumped right in and made friends and showed their teachers they were ready to learn.)
We took a trip to the closest LDS temple, in Columbus, Ohio. It's a 3 hour drive each way. It's a mini temple, and we think it's the smallest temple we've ever seen, but still very pretty. It made for a very long Saturday with lots of driving but we were glad we made the trip.
The plan was to stop for dinner somewhere on the way home from Ohio, but unfortunately, there's really NOTHING in between here and there, so we ended up at a big outdoor mall in town, which was super crowded because it was a Saturday in December. It was a bit overwhelming, but some Graeter's ice cream saved the day.
Emily and Jacob participated in their first piano recital. They each had to memorize one Christmas song and perform it. Emily's song was, "Angels We Have Heard On High." Jacob's was, "We Three Kings." They did awesome.
Megan and I went to Matthew's Pre-K Christmas party. They performed some songs. It is fun to see Matthew growing as he goes to school.
We went to Coonskin Park to check out the Christmas lights display. We sat in the back of our friends' pick up truck to enjoy them better. It was fun but cold!
It snowed the first day of Winter Break. We couldn't have started the break a better way.
Jacob made this snowman all by himself. He was pretty proud.
We visited the clinic where Daddy works. The kids had too much fun.
We made our Christmas treats like we always do.
Billy helped us get our gingerbread house done this year too.
(There was so much going on I thought it wouldn't happen, but he made the dough, baked it, cut it and saved the day.)
We participated in a Nativity Play with friends from church. How nice it is to have friends when family is so far away.
These kids were super excited come Christmas Eve.
For about 3 weeks before Christmas, Megan kept saying that she wanted Santa to bring her some "mac and cheese." Happily, Santa got the memo. She was super happy Christmas morning.
Matthew loves his new nerf gun.
Jacob is still fascinated with Star Wars. And puzzles.
Emily got a mini cupcake maker and was able to make and decorate all of these cupcakes with very minimal help from me. She is excited to make lots of cupcakes and give them to everyone she knows now.
Another great Christmas.
