New Bike

Last night I told Billy I'd have to write about this - saying it was "blogworthy." He laughed at me, but agreed. Emily's 4th birthday was at the beginning of June, and we thought she'd enjoy a bike for her birthday. She'd been riding the same trike since she was two, and it was just so small for her. We went to the store and saw we could get a 12 in. bike (it said it was for ages 3-5) or we could get a 16 in. bike (said it was for ages 4-8). Well, budget-concious as we are, we opted for the bigger bike, otherwise, we'd just have to get the next size up in another year or so.

Unfortunately, we forgot about our lack of "tall" genes. :) Emily was so excited to try her new bike, but, as you can see in the picture below, she could barely reach the pedals! (You'll have to excuse Billy, he was post-call when I took that picture, so he was very tired!) And she couldn't even get on and off the bike herself. We had to help her. She quickly became disinterested in it and has hardly touched the bike since her birthday.


Billy and I went back and forth about getting a new bike. ("She'll grow into it." "It's extra money." "It might take a year to grow into it!" Blah, bla-blah, bla-blah) Finally, on Labor Day, Billy came up to me (resting on the couch), and said, "I'm taking the kids to get Emily a bike."

So, now's she's got a new 12 in. bike that she loves! She can get off and on all by herself and can totally reach the pedals. She was flying up and down the sidewalk last night. It was really cute. She was so proud of herself! :) Billy was right! Again!



And now we can officially pass the trike down to Jacob, but he has no interest in trying to pedal! :) Maybe in a year or so. Once it cools down a bit more, we'll be outside a lot more, so we're hoping he'll be motivated by watching his big sister ride everywhere! We'll see what happens!
